As Democrats reel from their 2024 defeat, some have responded by rethinking strategy. Others—like Texas Rep. Greg Casar—have gone completely off the rails.
In a fresh round of Musk Derangement Syndrome, Casar is now accusing Elon Musk of criminal behavior for daring to help the Trump administration tackle waste and abuse in government. His evidence? Musk’s brief advisory role in DOGE—the Department of Government Efficiency—may have exceeded the 130-day legal cap for “special government employees.” But here’s the catch: Musk has already announced he’s stepping back, and his role has always been advisory and largely informal.
Casar isn’t letting facts get in the way. He’s leading a group of 77 Democrats demanding that President Trump publicly confirm Musk will resign by May 30. If not, Casar is promising to investigate Musk—and any other “billionaire” he deems guilty of using the White House to “enrich themselves.”
Let’s be clear: this is a thinly veiled threat of lawfare. It’s the same failed strategy Democrats used in 2023 and 2024—weaponizing the legal system to target Trump, his allies, and anyone who dared challenge the D.C. swamp. Voters saw through it then, and they’ll see through it again.
Musk’s actual record during his brief DOGE tenure? Exposing billions in federal waste, urging Congress to codify spending cuts, and pushing for basic accountability. For that, he’s being treated like a criminal by the very people who spent years defending Hunter Biden and Anthony Fauci.
Worse still, Casar let the mask slip. During an unhinged interview, he called Musk’s continued involvement with Trump “illegal” and essentially promised that if Democrats take back Congress, they’ll use their power to go after him. “Any billionaire that has broken any criminal laws enriching themselves using the power of the White House” would be fair game, Casar said.
That’s not oversight. That’s revenge.
Ironically, Casar’s meltdown only confirms why Musk became a Trump supporter in the first place. As Musk told Lara Trump in a recent Fox News interview, “I think it was essential for President Trump to win to ensure that America remained great.” He warned that without Trump’s victory, Democrats would have succeeded in importing “vast numbers of illegal voters” and creating a “one-party state from which we could never escape.”
He’s not wrong—and that’s exactly why the left is terrified.
Despite his critics, Musk has said he’ll still make time “a day or two per week” to advise the president if needed. And legally, there’s nothing stopping him from continuing in an informal role. The Democrats can send letters, hold press conferences, and scream into the MSNBC void, but they can’t stop Musk from exercising his First Amendment rights or lending his expertise to the administration.
Casar’s threats are as laughable as they are dangerous. They reveal a Democratic Party so consumed by hate for Musk and Trump that it’s willing to weaponize government power all over again. The same party that couldn’t stop chanting “democracy dies in darkness” now wants to investigate anyone who helps the opposition govern.
But it’s not just about Musk. It’s about the message being sent to every outsider who dares to challenge the establishment: Help drain the swamp, and we’ll come for you next.
If Democrats want to make “cancel Musk” their campaign slogan in 2026, they’re welcome to try. Americans remember who opened their mouths about lawfare—and who rolled up their sleeves to fix the country.
