As I am sure you are well aware, the US has a lot of national debt. Similarly, most US states owe various parties a high dollar amount. Despite demanding the highest amount in taxes, California happens to rank near the top.

And yet, it’s choosing to put forth millions in taxpayer funds not to pay off their debts or fix any real issues.

Instead, they recently announced they will fund the latest and final Quentin Tarantino film, among others.

Yes, you read that correctly.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The state’s film office on Friday said that California’s Film & TV tax credit program will welcome a trio of feature films, including Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic, as well as a roster of 13 independent films.”

And that’s not even the best part… the dollar amount slated to go to Tarantino’s film and others: $20.2 million – all in taxpayer dollars.

So rather than working to solve the homeless crisis, the rampant drug use, the decay of once beautiful cities such as San Francisco, the near-constant wildfires, and about a million other issues the state could use taxpayer funds on, California wants your hard-earned money to fund the next Tarantino film.

Now, I’m not saying any of this as a barb aimed at Tarantino. To be sure, his films are fairly popular, if a bit gory and over the top.

However, it just seems absurd to spend money that could most likely be used elsewhere and for the good of many more Californians than just Tarantino (who, by the way, has an estimated net worth of about $120 million). Let’s just say that “welfare” is the last thing this guy needs.

Yet, thanks to California leadership, that’s exactly what he’s getting. All while actual people in need are left without.
