San Francisco Mayor Gives ‘Remarkable Concession’ To Fight Crime; What’s Next?

When you choose to defund a program or a section of your public service, they lose their effectiveness. Some of that loss in productivity comes from a smaller workforce, and some comes from caring less about the very people who want you to be paid less. Another chunk comes from mandating things like vaccines on people who don’t want to be forced into making medical decisions like this.

San Francisco has all of those problems and more. Despite being one of the epicenters of the homeless and drug problems in this country, their progressive mindset has finally caught up to them. Mayor London Breed was finally able to admit that her ‘solutions’ were not panning out as well as she had hoped they would. Yes, they were kind and politically correct and gave everyone blame but the criminals, but they don’t work.

As Mayor Breed said “It’s time the reign of criminals who are destroying our city, it is time for it to come to an end…And it comes to an end when we take the steps to more aggressive with law enforcement. More aggressive with the changes in our policies and less tolerate of all the bullsh*t that has destroyed our city.” Amazing to see how horribly these progressive ideas played out. It’s almost as if the police exist for a reason.

Nevertheless, the bright side here is her ability to reverse her ignorant decision. This being despite the fact that the decision to defund the police mostly impacts the communities they claim the defunding is ‘protecting’. When budgets get slashed it’s the areas that contribute the least that get the least number of cops. That means the rich people who can afford private security get it anyways, and the regular cops are still out, just in smaller numbers.

Mayor Breed did have to do some damage control to keep her party happy though. “We will do this while continuing long-term reforms like our Street Crisis Response Teams and the expansion of mental health beds…we also need there to be accountability when someone does break the law. San Francisco is a compassionate city, but our compassion cannot be mistaken for weakness or indifference.” Ah yes, compassion. Something San Francisco loves to show, but only in their own very messed up way.

Certainly, they don’t have compassion for their citizens or the shop owners. Instead, they just want to make everything about ‘marginalized’ people and everything has to become a victim of some sort. Yet the true victims here are the shop owners, and the people who were robbed that are no longer being treated as victims. It’s almost as if they are the people to blame for having good personal items or a quality shop with luxury goods for sale.

San Francisco is not the only city to suffer these organized smash-and-grab robberies. They aren’t the only ones to have a massive uptick in crime. They are however one of the few who admit their city made a mistake, and the people committing the crimes are a massive problem. They are also one of the few to look to themselves for a solution. They aren’t clamoring for people to pay for their private security (despite many doing so) or blaming shops for what they sell (ala Chicago). They are instead taking responsibility for the failure of their progressive policies. While the need to save face was there, Mayor Breed did the most important part and took responsibility. Perhaps her fellow leftists should do the same.
