This is a story that is starting to give us major Russia vibes. Doesn’t it remind you of the hysteria that the Democrats engaged in when it came to the last election? If that story was any indication, they are not going to be letting up anytime soon. Once they get their hands on a good conspiracy theory, they don’t ever let it go.
For those who have been living under a rock (or simply too busy to watch the news), the Democrats are now looking to create mass hysteria over the United States Postal Service. Trump doesn’t help matters in these instances because he is always willing to toss some gasoline onto the fire but anyone who is engaging in good faith can tell when he’s having some fun with people.
He already told Russia to go find the rest of Hillary’s e-mails and that got a pretty good laugh. Now, he is feeding into the Post Office speculation by telling Fox News that he is opposed to offering any more funding for the USPS until the Democrats are willing to play ball. He’s also worried about the widespread fraud that is likely to take place if mail in voting is allowed to take place.
Trump probably should have thought these comments through because now he’s handed the Democrats a cudgel to beat him with for the remainder of the election cycle. The United States Postal Service can easily handle an increased volume of mail as well. Think about it this way: they don’t ask for any additional funding to handle the increased Christmas rush.
To say that he misplayed his hand here would be an understatement. He should have thought about the repercussions of these statements before he decided to make them. These comments would have been silly enough by themselves but when you place them in context, they look really bad. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is in the process of reorganizing the USPS and making budget cuts.
That’s why people are connecting the dots and claiming that Trump wants to destroy the post office. If he had thought before he spoke, he would have probably handled this one a bit differently. Mail sorting machines have been removed from some facilities and there are a number of mailboxes that have been taken off American streets.
Under the circumstances, we can see why so many people are terrified about the Post Office going away. UPS and FedEx simply can’t handle the same level of volume. At the moment, we believe that the explanations that are being given right now are legitimate but we are wondering what comes next.
The freaking out is starting to get progressively dumber, though. Rex Chapman (who has gone from NBA starter to leader of the Resistance) was trying to drum up controversy by showcasing locked mailboxes in California. This is where we have to draw the line. Why would Trump be motivated to suppress the vote in a state that is definitely going to go blue?
More importantly, why would Mitch McConnell be involved for any reason? These are the questions that the liberals should be asking but they are too busy trying to whip everyone into a fearful frenzy instead. As it turns out, there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. The mailboxes are locked because there was a string of thefts in the area and they have been locked since 2016.
The liberals are not allowing the facts to change their ways, though. They have a chance to panic and spread hysteria, so that’s exactly what they are going to do. The replies to the tweet that cleared everything up are telling. Did any of the fear mongers stop to think about any sort of logical explanation? Did they share the logical explanation with their audiences? You already know the answer to both of these questions and it probably didn’t take too many guesses.
