Joe Biden may have made his bones in the political world as a moderate but he is drifting further from these viewpoints as he ages. Now that he is a staunch leftist, he is trying his best to speak the language of his people. That means taking a hard line stance when it comes to contraception. He says that if there is a mandate for contraception, even a nun will need to remain in compliance.
We’d love to see him enforce that one but that’s neither here nor there. Biden is doing his best to position himself as a bridge between the semi normal leftists and the truly insane leftists. That’s about as moderate as he is willing to get these days. He is trying to restore one of the most insane and divisive policies of the Obama administration and we’re not sure why this is a good idea.
Biden is not pleased with the US Supreme Court’s decision to “strip” women of their access to medical care. As with most Democratic temper tantrums, there is more to this one than what meets the eye. Biden is more worried about continuing the Affordable Health Care Act’s reign of terror. He claims that the Act provides the necessary exceptions for houses of worship.
I am disappointed in today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision that will make it easier for the Trump-Pence Administration to continue to strip health care from women – attempting to carve out broad exemptions to the Affordable Care Act’s commitment to giving all women free access to recommended contraception.
As a result of the Affordable Care Act, more than 60 million women – including at least 32 million women of color – gained access to this preventative health care. The Obama-Biden Administration did this while also providing an exemption for houses of worship and an accommodation for nonprofit organizations with religious missions.
As disappointing as the Supreme Court’s ruling is, there is a clear path to fixing it: electing a new President who will end Donald Trump’s ceaseless attempts to gut every aspect of the Affordable Care Act. If I am elected, I will restore the Obama-Biden policy that existed before the Hobby Lobby ruling: providing an exemption for houses of worship and an accommodation for nonprofit organizations with religious missions. The accommodation will allow women at these organizations to access contraceptive coverage, not through their employer-provided plan, but instead through their insurance company or a third-party administrator.
The Act is also supposed to offer accommodations for any nonprofit organization that serves a religious purpose. Apparently, this was too sensible for Biden to wrap his mind around. He is using the Supreme Court ruling as a springboard for his own hypothetical presidency. The only path forward for the nation is to choose Biden, or so he says.
The Hobby Lobby ruling that aimed to gut the Affordable Care Act would be reversed, if Biden had his way. Little Sisters vs Pennsylvania did not actually rule in favor of their exception. The Supreme Court ruling was not actually focused on that at all. The only ruling that was made had to do with the HHS’ authority to craft the exemption in the first place.
In other words, things are not nearly dire as dire as Joe Biden and his campaign are trying to claim. Clarence Thomas offered his opinion on the matter, an opinion that Biden clearly didn’t read. The mandate is based on regulation, not statute. To make matters worse, the Supreme Court already ruled against the Obama era policies.
These policies were found to have overstepped their boundaries when it comes to religious belief. The Hobby Lobby ruling forced HHS to head back to the drawing board. The court was not even willing to entertain any of the new issues that were presented by the policy and rightfully so. We’re not sure what Biden expects here.
It seems an awful lot like the Supreme Court has already made up their minds about this. If we had to guess, Biden only read the mainstream media reports about the case that aligned with his current point of view. Thomas did not get rid of any religious exemptions. What Biden is objecting to has nothing to do with anyone else and everything to do with Joe Biden.
He’s worried that he won’t have the authority he desires if he wins the presidency. There’s nothing in this ruling to support that kind of opinion, though. The next administration is going to have the latitude to establish any policies that they want and the Hobby Lobby ruling is only meant to serve as a boundary. Only Joe Biden knows why this bothers him so much.
This whole dust up only serves to remind us of the errors that were made by the last administration. They were willing to make the sort of rules that are designed to remove people’s religious freedoms. If Biden is really willing to go against the nuns of the world and establish an administration that is every bit as radical as Barack Obama’s, he’s the only one who will be suffering the consequences.
